EDC Literary Divas > Economy is tight -- maybe it's time you took yourself seriously
No matter where you've gone to spend money lately -- the gas station, the grocery store -- your money doesn't go as far as it used to. Now is a scary time for Americans -- well, unless you're the Clintons and you've made $109 million over the last few years, as we are learning from the recent release of their tax returns. But for most other Americans, this is a nervous time. We are hemorrhaging jobs -- the economy lost 80,000 jobs in March, up from the 63,000 we lost in February. And the losses could likely go higher in coming months.
And many families are struggling to pay for necessities such as food and gas to get to work. But you don't have to let this information paralyze you with fear. Instead, this is the time for the creative and determined among us to take charge of our financial lives. Now is the time to dig deep and see what talent, what skill ,what ability you have that can make money for you. Maybe it's time to take that leap of faith and start your own business -- either as a side gig to complement your day job, or as a full-time endeavor if you are on the outside of a job and looking for a paycheck.
It's time to stop talking about your great dream, wish or desire to do meaningful work and to start doing it. It's time out for whining about why the boss, the man or someone else won't let you get ahead. It's time to take your own aspirations seriously and create a way to advance. Our lives are our responsibilities. So what are you going to do about yours? What new income-generating and life-changing idea will you come up with? This economy may be tough. But are you tougher?
